2. Education
Another thing that is very bad about our country is that a lot of women can’t raise their children properly because they must return to workโif they don’t want to lose their jobs, of course! This happens because there is no paid maternity leave, and you have no guarantee that your employer will pay you to stay home and raise your children for at least one year. Do you know that only two other countries in the world are dealing with this particular situation? While parental leave is a severe concern, Americans also have issues with the educational system, where not all children receive adequate financial support for quality education.
Compared to schools attended by wealthier kids, schools attended by disadvantaged African American people receive far less financing. It’s not surprising that America has one of the largest achievement gaps between high- and low-income students, according to OECD measurements. And regrettably, racial segregation in schools is still a problem today, worse than it was back in the day.
Unfortunately, America stands out pretty low among the countries that take care of their students because, while in other areas 70% of the college tuition is paid by the state, in the U.S. only 40% of the cost of education is covered.
