#2 Tennessee

Tennessee citizens saw 673 violent crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, ranking it as the second-most dangerous state with a rise in violent crimes of 13%. It is the most violent state in the South, and Memphis has a violent crime rate of 1,359 per 100,000 people, which accounts for the high ranking.

Despite being contested with Anchorage in Alaska, this metro region has the highest crime rate of any in the nation and the highest crime rate of any city in Tennessee. Even the safest cities in the state, such as Church Hill, Signal Mountain, and Mount Carmel, cannot bring the figures back down.

According to FBI data, you had a 1 in 90 chance of becoming a victim of a violent crime in Memphis, a 1 in 25 risk of becoming a victim of a property crime, a 1 in 240 chance of becoming a victim of vehicle theft, and a 1 in 5,722 chance of becoming a victim of homicide.
