9. SARS
In the 2000s, severe acute respiratory syndrome, also known as SARS, created a pandemic that was similar to the one that has emerged since COVID-19 was discovered. This virus had a higher mortality rate than the new coronavirus and was first identified in China. After that, it spread to the eastern part of Asia and arrived in the United States.
People who were infected with this deadly virus experienced symptoms such as pneumonia, fevers, diarrhea, and aches. Just like COVID-19, SARS is spread through bodily droplets. When a patient sneezes or coughs, someone else inhales the suspended liquid and gets infected too. The media actually considered SARS to be the first pandemic of the 21st century.
