2010 Haiti Earthquake

On January 12, 2010, there was an earthquake that struck Haiti, which had a magnitude of 7.0 at 16:53 local time (21:53 UTC). The earthquake’s epicenter was very close to Leogane. Even if the death toll was much lower than almost any other earthquake disaster, the resulting damage to all those properties and people made it probably the most devastating disaster in the 21st century. Around three million people were directly affected by this earthquake.

The death toll estimated a range from 100,000 to about 160,000. However, the Haitian government decided to deliberately inflate the numbers, as they estimated 220,000 to 316,000 casualties. The federal government of Haiti also said that 250,000 homes and over 30,000 business centers collapsed or were extremely damaged. Even more, this earthquake is thought to be one of the Worst Natural Disasters in entire history.
