2. 1920 – Alabama-Mississippi Tornado Outbreak
From April 19 to 21, 1920, the Southeastern United States was battered by at least 17 tornadoes, with at least seven of them devastating the states of Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. Six of them were rated violent F4s Fujita scale. Five tornadoes were incredibly tracked, traveling more than 32 miles (51 km) across Mississippi and Alabama.
One tornado, in particular, covered a distance of more than 130 mi (210 km) from Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, to Limestone County, Alabama, destroying entire communities and taking the lives of at least 44 people. By the time the event had finished, 243 people lay dead, with an additional 1,374 people injured.
