Antarctica Is Heating Up
When we conjure images of Antarctica, we can easily picture vast glaciers, waddling penguins and barking seals in a sea of endless white. The problem is that Antarctica is far from white anymore as parts of the frozen continent are turning green, all thanks to climate change and massive algal blooms.
The latest research shows that warming temperatures and melting snow in the formally frozen continent are helping in the formation of algal blooms (rapid increase or accumulation in the population of algae), which are getting larger and larger every year. So, widespread is this issue that in some parts of Antarctica you can even see the green areas from space.
