Europe Windstorm
Europe has seen its fair share of windstorms in 2020, with extratropical cyclones Ciara and Alex battering large swathes of the continent, with Ciara bringing flooding and widespread disruption across the UK and Ireland in early February, before Alex arrived in late September to smash into the UK, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic.
The combined cost both these windstorms caused an estimated $6bn in damages as well as causing 30 deaths. The sad news doesn’t end there as it is also predicted that the intensity and frequency of such extratropical cyclones are only going to increasing as temperatures rise year on year due to global warming.
