Yogis have been doing it for centuries. On top of those welcome benefits, deep breathing can help you lose weight on the cellular level.
Taking deep breaths lowers your cortisol level, a hormone that regulates weight gain and stress. Breathing deeper increases the amount of oxygen you take in and causes your metabolism to accelerate. In addition, if you breathe faster, it eliminates more carbon dioxide, which in turn causes your cells to use more energy.
