6. Gallipoli
Many storytellers have used the cinematic trope of ‘if only I’d gotten there sooner,’ but few have used it to such heart wrenching effect as Peter Weir did in his 1981 Australian war drama. The film follows two sprinters from rural Western Australia who enlist in the Australian Army during the height of the First World War.
It beautifully captures the character and ideals of those men who chose to fight for their country. Like with most war films, the men quickly lose their innocence. However, Weir takes his time in building the bond and relationship with the two leads and in doing so, makes the ending something that will leave you battered and broken.

Absolutely one of the best and most frightening movies I have ever watched.
Loved every second of it.
