Keaton gives a compelling and sympathetic performance as a gifted and caring teacher of deaf children by day and a woman searching for excitement by night. After she meets, dates then breaks up with the charming but vain Richard Gere, she decides to make a positive change in her life.
The audience is fully behind the character, waiting for that obligatory ‘happy ending,’ but this is not that kind of movie as a chance encounter in a bar leads to her graphic, brutal and shocking death by a man seemingly slighted by his inability to perform when Keaton’s character was only trying to show understanding not questioning his manhood.
