6. Plant a Tree
We don’t have to tell you the importance of trees to the environment, but you might be shocked to learn that every year around 15 billion trees are cut down. What you also might not know is that a single young tree can absorb CO2 at a rate of 13 pounds (5 kilograms). Once is gets older, that number goes up to 48 pounds (21 kilograms) of CO2 per year.
The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a report in 2018 that suggested if we could replace 2.5 billion acres (1 billion hectares) of forest, we could actually limit global warming to 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit (1.5 degrees Celsius) by 2050. So, grab a spade and a couple of saplings and get planting.
