Condensed milk hack
It’s true that it sounds incredibly tempting: just place an unopened can of sweetened condensed milk in a pot with boiling water, then walk away. In a couple of hours, you will have a magically made dulce de leche.
However, unless you want to clean after a sweetened condensed milk explosion in your kitchen, you will probably want to make your dulce de leche in a completely different way. Each and every year, we see this hack popping up as the latest, and greatest dessert shortcut, even if the milk manufacturer Borden, Inc. has been constantly recommending against the practice, advising people not to try it.
It can seriously harm you, due to the heat expansion within the can, as it isn’t designed to withstand such high temperatures.
Toaster grilled cheese hacks
Well, when it comes to sandwiches, delicious grilled cheese is probably one of the easiest things you can make. I mean, you just have to slather some butter on the bread, then slap a piece of good ol’ American cheese right in the middle, and then fry it up for a couple of minutes.
Do you want to make it even easier? Apparently, some people out there want to. Another weird food hack is to place a slice of cheese on top of a slice of bread, then turn the toaster on its side, and simply put in the bread cheese-side-up. After all, what could go wrong when you put together a toaster and melty cheese?
I have an idea: toaster fire! There’s even a woman who had to learn this the hard way, as she decided to post on Facebook a photo of her toaster completely engulfed in flames. She added in the caption: “Don’t try this at home!!!… Please share! There are surely other people as daft as me!!”
Omelet in a bag hack
Making a proper brunch for a crowd can prove to be extremely stressful, especially when you promised to make a dozen custom omelets. Luckily, there is technically a solution to your problems: the omelet in a bag hack. And yes, it is exactly what it sounds like.
You start craking those eggs into a Ziploc bag, then throw in the cheese, ham, or vegetables, then mix it all up, and cook it in boiling water. You can easily cook more than one omelet at once, and it will be a total time-saver. But wait a minute…is it safe?
I mean, harmful chemicals can easily leach into food when you’re boiling the plastic, such as Bisphenol A, which has been linked with increased cancer risk. Some of the bags, such as Ziploc, don’t contain BPA, but they still might leak other chemicals into the food.
