The C-130 cargo jet has long been a mainstay of the United States military. This vehicle, however, was created for more than just moving cargo.

The Lockheed AC-130, also known by its variant designations Spectre, Spooky, Stinger 2, and Ghost Rider, will not be performing solo missions. It’s a too large and slow a subject, and its unpressurized cabin means it can only fly at a low altitude. However, with the right backup, it may turn into a nightmare for enemy ground forces. Because this is a massive, slow-moving target that is also well equipped.

Unlike many gunships, the AC-130 does not bomb its targets. During an attack, it instead conducts a pylon turn. While unloading its tremendous store of ammo, it essentially moves in a circle above its target. One L60 Bofors 40 millimeter weapon and one 105 millimeter M102 howitzer are included in the standard variant.

The upgraded model also has a 125-millimeter equalizer cannon with a better firing system and more ammunition capacity. For more than 50 years, these gunships have provided close air support to US missions. They have a proven track record in warfare, having served in conflicts ranging from the Vietnam War to the current conflict with ISIS.

  1. Nice to know the USA has these extremely powerful weapons. I hope we continue on track in the future with even more weapon advancements. I feel as long as we have a first-rate military other countries won’t mess!

  2. The B83 nuclear weapon is 80 times more powerful than the one dropped on Hiroshima, not the opposite, which is what you posted.

  3. The absurdity of the whole nuclear weapon growth premise is astounding, how many times over does the threat of extinction of all life on earth cease to be anything but a redundant intimidation at huge expense? Dead is dead, after the initial exchange of warheads it will not matter to a burned out cinder floating in a lifeless barren solar system. How’s that for a pleasant Good Morning?!
