8 Scariest Airports in the World

Wellington International Airport is right in the mountains

Wellington International Airport is, as well, one of the worst airports in the world. It is located in New Zeeland, and it features a 6,350 feet (1935 meters) long runway, but its both ends START and END in water.

As you can probably imagine, it’s also extremely tricky for pilots, because the airport is located in the one mountain zone in the country, with difficult winds, which makes it more difficult to land.

Even if the landing has been somehow safely executed, passengers can be swept off their feet by the almighty gusts. On another side, the airport has one of the best terminals in the entire world.

  1. I flew 20 yrs. Ago, not because I wanted to but because I had to !!!! & It took ALOT for me to get through it !! Luckily they were short flights , less than 2 hrs. After that I never flew again & NEVER WILL !!! I HATE FLYING !!!

    1. You are so right! I live in San Diego. I landed on a United flight here in the nineties so hard that trays and other items fell onto the floor in the galley. The absolute worst landing I have ever had into San Diego. Oh yes I forgot to mention the buildings you fly in between. The running joke โ€œWe could see what people were eating at Mr. Aโ€™s.โ€

Terrific airportโ€”magnificent landing views. Got some of my best pics out the window of the plane while it was landing. Wouldnโ€™t hesitate to go to Telluride again (sigh) donโ€™t quite have the cash, though!

  3. as a passenger the 3 NY metro airports are the scariest. Between JFK, LaGuardia and Newark,(nt to mention Teterboro) that’s a lot of airplanes that air traffic control has to keep from bumping into each other
