Mount Hood, Oregon
If you are familiar with the tourism and agricultural sectors of Portland, Oregon, you would know just how important Mount Hood is for them. Yet, while it is one of the highest peaks in the state, it is not just a mountain. It is also a volcano that is known to have been blowing off at weird intervals for the last half a million years.
In the last 1,500 years alone, there have been two major eruptions. This is important because, while we cannot know the number of lives lost, we do know that the debris from the explosions can choke and even stop the river systems even after the whole eruption has stopped.
The last activity on Mount Oregon occurred in the mid-1800s, and thankfully for everyone, it was minor. Since then, the mountain has stood proudly and calmly in the background of Oregon, and everyone is keeping their fingers crossed that it stays that way!
