1. Julius Caesar

We start with an assassination of Shakespearean epicness, the murder of the great Julius Caesar. And although it might seem like a tale conjured by the bard’s quill, the history books tell us that around 60 senators raised their blades and plunged them into Rome’s most famous leader 23 times.

This murder in 44 BC came only one month after Caesar had instilled himself as dictator. The Senate believed that this was too much power for one man and that not only would Caesar ignore the Senate, but he would likely crown himself king. His death would have a significant impact as not only did it spark a civil war but would see Rome’s time as a Republic end and its time as an empire begin.
