Yitzhak Rabin
Rabin was the fifth Prime Minister of Israel, serving two terms in office, 1974 to 77, and from 1992 to 1995. And it would be after his re-election to the second term he would really get to grips with the IsraeliโPalestinian peace process. Unfortunately for him, not everyone welcomed peace and would do anything to stop it.
One of those individuals was a right-wing Jewish law student called Yigal Amir, who was angered that Rabin had already been holding talks with Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat for two years to establish a way Palestine could be independent. Rabin had been attending a mass rally at the Kings of Israel Square (now Rabin Square) in Tel Aviv on the evening of 4 November 1995, when Amir walked up behind him and shot him twice in the back.
