2011 East Africa Drought

A very serious drought affected the entire East African region from July 2011 to June 2012. It was considered to be “the most severe one in 60 years” and it caused no less than an extremely severe food crisis in Somalia, Djibouti, Kenya, and Ethiopia. Its effects threatened the livelihood of 9.5 million people.

All kinds of refugees from southern Somalia had to flee to neighboring Ethiopia and Kenya, which were more crowded, but unsanitary conditions with malnutrition cases led to lots of deaths. Other nations such as East Africa, Sudan, South Sudan, but also Uganda, were also suffering from the food crises.
