5. Samsungโs Galaxy Note 7 recall
This recall applies to all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones that were sold prior to September 15, 2016. The world’s leading smartphone manufacturer was forced to cancel and recall the expensive devices after some of them caught fire.
But how did it happen? Well, these devices had a lithium-ion battery. And sometimes, these batteries can heat up really fast, and ultimately, they have a chance of catching fire. As you would expect, this poses a real threat to anyone who carries a pen like this in their pocket.
This event was huge, and as a result, just in the US, Samsung received 92 reports of batteries overheating. In 26 instances, people suffered burns, and there were also 55 incidents of property damage, which led to fires in garages and automobiles.
