7. Tamarac, Florida
Located in Broward County, the second-most populous county in the state, in Southeast Florida, the city of Tamarac may boast the motto “The City For Your Life!”, but its own life has been quite a short one.
When real estate developer and former owner of the Seattle Seahawks, Ken Behring, came to the county in the early 60s, he was looking to buy some land in order to build an active adult community of two-bedroom maintenance-free homes. Although it is now an all-age community, it is still ideal for those looking to retire to a small community without breaking the bank.
Total population: 64,262
Median list price: $199,845
Percentage of population 65 and older: 26%
