Flood Fatigue in the Carolinas, between 2015 and 2019
North and South Carolina had to deal with a lot of water in the past four years, as only Hurricane Joaquin brought up 27 inches of rain in South Carolina. There were also Hurricane Dorian’s storm surge and powerful winds that damaged North Carolina’s Outer Banks back in September 2019.
As the estimated costs caused by Hurricane Dorian’s are still to be determined, the flooding that followed from all the other ones (Joaquin, Matthew, and Florence) brought more than $37 billion in damages.
