Lituya Bay, Alaskaย
One of the strongest tsunamis that ever hit our beautiful country took place in Lituya Bay, Alaska on January 1st, 1853. This disaster was huge and some experts say that it was actually a megatsunami.
Even though there are not that many records for this tsunami, it is thought to have been caused by a significant landslide that happened near Mudslide Creek on the south bank of the bay. The wave crest measured around 394 feet, flooding the bay’s coastline 750 feet inland.
