Despite the fact that the Hawkeye State is regarded as one of the safest places to live, natural disasters have not been “avoided” in recent years. Floods, tornadoes, storms, and landslides are some of Iowa’s most frequent natural catastrophes. Here, risks like heat waves and droughts are less dangerous compared to the previous state, Washington.

Only 22 of the nearly 70 catastrophic disasters that Iowa declared between 1953 and 2020, the majority of which were floods and severe storms, were associated with losses of more than $1 billion. People in Iowa were on pins and needles in 2019 because of the unprecedented flooding. Even though the area has a humid climate in some months of the year, nobody would expect such horrible consequences.
