4. Southerly Winds

Due to the prevailing winds in the United States being westerly winds, low-pressure systems or storms tend to move to the east, and when they do, they bring southerly winds with them on their outer edges. These strong winds that come from the south are because of the air circulating counterclockwise around low-pressure systems in the Northern Hemisphere.

This is a clear indicator that a storm is on its way. However, sometimes people can mistake localized winds in valleys or off mountains for these southern winds, but those winds are caused by heating and cooling during the day.
