Almost a year after initiating a horrible invasion that triggered one of the biggest confrontations with the West in 60 years, Putin declared that Russia will eventually achieve its goals, and didn’t miss the chance of accusing the West of attempting to destroy it.

It’s unfortunate that the war in Ukraine has escalated to a higher level. Peace talks and negotiations can’t be brokered. My concern is about the air pollution that is resulting from the conflict. Where’s the hope to live and be healthy come from? Where in the world can mankind be safe and free to live?
I disagree with West Texas and Oregon as being potential safe zones. West Texas may not be heavily populated; however, it is home to a vast amount of this country’s oil production. Hit us there and you deal a crippling blow to our economy on multiple levels as that would become a radioactive wasteland for thousands of years.
As for Oregon, it’s close proximity to Washington state and the fact that there are multiple military facilities within that state including a nuclear submarine base could, in all probability, make that region of the country a prime target.

I certainly hope this event does not occur. I have built a bomb shelter just in case it does happen as I grew up in the 60’s when duck and cover in school was a thing and there were civil defense markers still on buildings. I never forgot and as long as the power-hungry people have the ability to press the button, I know it may come to pass. I accept the situation and move forward. Those of you who state I would rather be dead fail to realize you might not be at ground zero and you might survive. If you do not know what to do radiation sickness is a horrible way to go. I’d rather have a spare tire in my trunk and know how to fix a flat rather than being helpless because I was not prepared. Same with any disaster it’s better to have a plan.
