According to the World Atlas, there were 424 strong earthquakes in Washington between 1974 and 2003. One of the most destructive earthquakes that occurred in this state occurred on February 28, 2001. It had a magnitude of 6.8, and its epicenter was located in southern Puget Sound. The shock waves were so strong that they were felt in regions such as Oregon, Idaho, and Canada.
