1. Invasion of Canada
The War of 1812 started with US forces invading Upper and Lower Canada. Americans didn’t foresee any difficulties expecting everything will go relatively well; the idea that Canada represented the British empire’s Achilles heal had long been popular among Americans.
However, Americans overestimated their military capabilities and strength, and underestimated both Canadian and British power. Instead of an easy triumph, the British defeated the Americans.
The real catastrophe of the campaign started showing in August when a combined Native American and British army forced William Hull, who had led the American troops, to surrender. The British took further steps toward their victory by assaulting and burning several American frontier outposts, despite the fact that they lacked the logistical tail and numbers to march deeper into American territory.
