Icy Bay, Alaska
The fourth-highest tsunami ever recorded occurred on October 17th, 2015, when 180 million tons of rock slid into Taan Fiord, an arm of Icy Bay. This caused a big tsunami that destroyed 8 square miles of the Wrangell Saint Elias National Park and Preserve’s forest and rose as high as 633 feet above the fjord.
The good news is that there were no people hurt, as no one was close enough when the incident happened. In conformity with the National Park Service, the only damage to infrastructure was boulders scattered on a beach that was used for bush plane landings.
