2. Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the country, was shot on April 14th, 1865, by John Wilkes Booth. They attended a special showing of the farce “Our American Cousin” at Ford’s Theatre in Washington.

After being shot in the back of the head, Lincoln was brought to a house across the street from the theater for medical attention. Unfortunately, he passed away the following morning. One theory for his murder is that he was killed because he supported black rights.

Two years before his death, during the Civil War, which was fought over slavery, the president issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which granted freedom to the slaves in the Confederacy. Since not everyone agreed with his decision, many experts assume this is the reason he was killed.

Andrew Johnson, the vice president, replaced the leader of the country. Lincoln’s killer was fatally shot on April 26th, 1865, after he was found hiding in a barn close to Bowling Green, Virginia.

…Did you know that Lincoln became the first president to be shot and killed?
