10. Swine Flu
Swine Flu is the well-known name of the virus that was responsible for a pandemic that occurred between 2009 and 2010. This seasonal flu is now part of the annual flu vaccine and its scientific name is actually A/H1N1pdm09, simply known as H1N1.
This influenza virus strain is actually responsible for the other two pandemics, the Russian Flu, and the Spanish Flu. The name of this disease comes from the mixture of genetic material that belongs to swine, bird, and human flu viruses. Moreover, we can say that it comes from the fact that this new dangerous virus combined its genetic material with the Eurasian pig flu virus.
The symptoms presented by this virus are similar to those that occur when patients are infected with the flu, and experts say that it’s pretty dangerous. Given the fact that there were many people who didn’t have any symptoms, we can’t say an exact number of cases, but it is believed that there were no less than 700 million to 1.4 billion people during the pandemic.
