Conflict is creating hunger
Conflict is by far the biggest driver of hunger all over the world. According to the World Food Programme, as many as 811 million people go to bed hungry every single night, and the number of people who have to face severe food insecurities has now doubled: from 135 million to 276 million, in only two years.
The war in Ukraine’s impact
When it comes to the global food supply chain, there are a couple of things worse than the Russia and Ukraine war. The two of them were the main providers of more than 30% of the world’s wheat, not to mention barley, sunflower seed oil, and corn.
As you can imagine, these numbers are used to feed billions of people. This war is most definitely tipping our fragile world directly into mass hunger, as The Economist confirmed.
