5. George Michael
Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on June 25, 1963, George Michael is widely considered one of the greatest artists of the MTV era. He would initially rise to fame as one-half of the music duo Wham! along with his long-time friend Andrew Ridgeley. The pair would enjoy worldwide success from 1982 to 1986, selling more than 35 million records, before Michael decided to embark on a solo career.
His solo career would see his fame go stratospheric as he would go on to become one of the best-selling musicians of all time, with sales of over 115 million records worldwide. Coming out as gay in 1998, he would face many personal battles with substance abuse and face many legal troubles as well.
In the early hours of December 25, 2016, George’s partner, Fadi Fawaz, found him in bed at his home in Goring-on-Thames. A senior coroner in Oxfordshire determined he had passed from heart and liver disease, aged 53.
