3. Vista House – Oregon
Unlike the more natural locations on this list, Vista House is a manmade structure and one of the few places in America that combine nature’s wonders and human architectural brilliance so majestically. Built in 1918 as a rest stop observatory for travelers on the old Columbia River Gorge Highway, this octagonal stone building was designed by renowned Oregon architect Edgar M. Lazarus in the style of Art Nouveau.
Standing 733 feet above the Columbia River, this scenic point on the Historic Columbia River Highway offers visitors stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area and is an ideal location to take in the spectacular sunsets.
