As we learn through the course of the film, their plans were actually put into motion at the moment of conception as the ‘baby’ of the title is none other than the spawn of Satan himself, the Antichrist. Also Rosemary initially believes her intimate encounter the personification of evil is just a dream, she will soon learn that she is living a nightmare.
While audiences held their collective breaths, hoping that Rosemary would steal the baby away from these devil worshipers when she delivered the line ‘What have you done to him? What have you done to his eyes, you maniacs!’ only to be told, ‘He has his father’s eyes.’ this sent shockwaves through an audience not used to seeing such a deeply disturbing ending.
