Mount St. Helens, Washington

If there is one range of volcanoes everyone has heard about, then it is the Ring of Fire. This is the nickname a whole region that hosts volcanic and seismic activities has been given. It starts on South America’s west coast and then goes all the way up to Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. In this Ring of Fire, we also have the Cascade Range, where we can find Mount St. Helens.

Despite the fact that the whole Ring of Fire is known for volcanic activity, when we take a look at the Cascade Range, there is no other volcano as active and violent as Mount St. Helen. To get a better idea as to why this volcano is so dangerous, we should remember that through history it has both had dormant and active periods.

One of the most devastating eruptions happened on May 18, 1980. This explosion has not only killed the wildlife around it and parched thousands of acres of land, but the ash cloud it shot out was so big it went around the globe, even turning the sky darker for hundreds of miles! Around 50 people lost their lives in this incident.
