In May 2018, Trump decided to unilaterally withdraw the US from the 2015 Iran nuclear war. His move has inevitably induced chaos across the Middle East and is definitely one of the most unpopular decisions Trump has ever made in the global arena.

After several incidents in the Persian Gulf region in 2019, tensions between Tehran and Washington reached unprecedented heights and sparked fears of war. The whole situation became even worse after Trump deployed a strike in early January 2020, which ended with Iran’s top general, Qassem Soleimani, being killed.

Trump’s decision to withdraw US troops from Syria in October 2019 was also among his most devastating foreign policy moves. In doing so, the former president effectively abandoned US-allied Kurdish forces, who were forced to bear the brunt of the campaign led by the US against ISIS.
