Syria

In 2011, a horrible civil conflict started in Syria, a conflict that made millions of people suffer. Almost half of the country’s estimated pre-war population has been displaced, and now many people are living as refugees in neighboring countries.

Inside Syria, there are over 13.4 million citizens that currently need humanitarian assistance. Syria was once a country with a thriving middle class, but now, over 83% of Syrians can’t afford food anymore and live below the poverty line.

According to the ones who have remained in the country, the violence of conflict isn’t only confined to bombing, missile attacks, and the complete destruction of infrastructure. It’s even worse, as it managed to slip under every little aspect of Syrian life.

So many civilians who have spoken with journalists described how there’s no sense of security ANYWHERE, including in their own homes. Nowadays, personal security has become an alien feeling, especially for women and girls.

  1. WWI was supposed to “…make the world safe for democracy…” and be “…the war to end all wars…” yet it’s said something like there has there been no war worldwide for only eight years in recorded history. Organizations like the United Nations and countries that have not experienced war first-hand; or for a very long time, have to get together and try to find ways to stop current wars and prevent future ones. It ‘s disgusting that after two major world wars; I and II, little or nothing has been done to stop wars since, like America questionably being in Vietnam for something like 14 years, and later again questionably twice in Iraq and then in Afghanistan hunting OBL but which lasted for about two decades. Russia has now started a war in Ukraine so the nature of humanity itself can be called into question not criticizing those who were against war and have historically done what they could to stop it.
