Democratic Republic of Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo has become the scene where it takes place in one of the worst-ever civil wars in entire African history. The ongoing conflict that initiated in the late 1990s to a series of much smaller, localized conflicts that are now focused on specific regions, has done nothing but destroy this beautiful country.

The impact of King Leopold II on Belgium’s bloody colonization of the country had an enormous impact on the ongoing series of violent conflicts. Even if the conflict is now more localized, this doesn’t make things better.

Sporadic waves of fighting across various parts of the country made the DRC a complex and challenging humanitarian situation. More than 5 million Congolese people are now being internally displaced within the country, representing the third biggest population of internally displaced people (IDPs), in the entire world.

Only in the first half of 2020, there were 1,427,000 brand new displacements that were directly associated with the conflict. The latest UNOCHA estimates the number of Congolese asking for humanitarian assistance at more than 22 million.

  1. WWI was supposed to “…make the world safe for democracy…” and be “…the war to end all wars…” yet it’s said something like there has there been no war worldwide for only eight years in recorded history. Organizations like the United Nations and countries that have not experienced war first-hand; or for a very long time, have to get together and try to find ways to stop current wars and prevent future ones. It ‘s disgusting that after two major world wars; I and II, little or nothing has been done to stop wars since, like America questionably being in Vietnam for something like 14 years, and later again questionably twice in Iraq and then in Afghanistan hunting OBL but which lasted for about two decades. Russia has now started a war in Ukraine so the nature of humanity itself can be called into question not criticizing those who were against war and have historically done what they could to stop it.
